Fried Mahi-Mahi Fish in Sweet and Sour Sauce

topcook.tomathouse.com

Ingredients:

    Fried fish

  • 700 g mahi-mahi fillet, cut into “fingers” approximately 8 cm long.
  • About 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying

    Sweet and sour soy sauce

  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh ginger
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1.5 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp. l. rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • Juice of 1 large lime
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • Hawaiian chili water (optional)

Preparation:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and cornstarch. Add 1/4 cup water. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a simmer over medium heat. When the sauce has thickened slightly, remove from the heat. The sauce can be served warm or at room temperature.
  2. Sprinkle the fish pieces evenly with lime juice and soy sauce and let sit for a few minutes. Place the breadcrumbs on a plate. Heat 0.5 cm of oil in a large heavy skillet. When a few breadcrumbs bounce cheerfully in the oil and quickly brown, dredge the fish pieces in breadcrumbs, shaking off excess liquid.

  3. Pan-fry the fish on all sides until the breading is golden brown and the fish begins to flake, about 5 minutes. Serve the mahi mahi immediately, drizzled with the sauce, or served separately in a gravy boat. For an extra kick, serve with Hawaiian chili water.
