topcook.tomathouse.com

Ingredients:

    Mint syrup

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 10 sprigs of mint

    Mint Julep

  • 5 mint leaves + a sprig for decoration
  • 75 ml bourbon

Preparation:

  1. Prepare mint syrup:

Combine sugar and 1 tablespoon of water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and add the mint sprigs, pressing them down with a wooden spoon to submerge them. Let cool to room temperature, then remove from the syrup and discard. Refrigerate the syrup for at least 1 hour. You will have about 1.5 cups of syrup; cover and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
  2. Prepare a drink:

Place mint leaves and 30 ml of mint syrup in a small glass or julep cup. Muddle with the handle of a wooden spoon. Add bourbon. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Garnish with a mint sprig.

The best way is to store it in the refrigerator.
To keep mint fresh, wrap it in a damp paper towel, then place it in a zip-lock bag and refrigerate for up to a week.
