Caramelized Onion Dip topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp. l. olive oil
- 1.3 kg of onions, cut in half and cut into half rings 0.5 cm wide.
- 2 tbsp. l. brown sugar
- 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
- 3 drops hot sauce, optional
- 1 package (220 g) softened cream cheese
- 1 cup (220 g) sour cream
- Chopped chives, optional
Preparation:
- In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat the butter and olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and brown sugar. Cook, stirring constantly, until the onion is soft and golden, 15-20 minutes. Season with salt to taste.
- Add the vinegar and simmer until it evaporates. Add hot sauce, if using. Remove from heat and let the onions cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, whisk the cream cheese until smooth. Add the sour cream and caramelized onions. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle with chives, if using.
- Serve the dip warm or refrigerate to serve chilled.
