Hot waffle sandwiches with ham and cheese topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 4 ready-made Belgian waffles
- 2 slices Swiss cheese (or mozzarella for the Italian version), halved
- Dijon mustard (optional)
- 2 slices ham or prosciutto
- Butter or cooking spray to grease the pan
Preparation:
- Place two waffles on a table or cutting board. Place half a slice of cheese on each waffle. Spread a little mustard on the cheese, if using. Fold each slice of ham in half and place it on top of the cheese. Place another slice of cheese on top of each slice of ham. Top with the remaining waffles to make a sandwich.
- Heat a nonstick skillet or cast iron skillet over medium heat.
- Lightly grease a griddle with butter. Place the sandwiches in the griddle and cook until golden brown on the bottom and the cheese begins to melt, 2-3 minutes. Flip the sandwiches over and cook until golden brown on the other side and the cheese is completely melted, about 2 more minutes. Serve the sandwiches hot or wrap them in foil to take to work, school, or a picnic.
